Sophia.Host - A sovereign Unix system

A sovereign Unix system. Built to outlast the companies that would replace it.

Sophia.Host is a tilde on OpenBSD, a shared Unix system and an OpenBSD user group. Members get shell accounts, email, web hosting, DNS, code hosting, gohper, etc. Everything runs on owned hardware, using the system's own base tools wherever possible.

Not a cloud service. A server, kept carefully, that people can join and use.

OpenBSD is rock solid, engineered by people who still believe a system should be understandable, verifiable, and maintained for decades. Nothing comparable is running today.

What's running today

  • Mail - OpenSMTPD + Dovecot, DKIM, spam filtering
  • Web - OpenBSD httpd + relayd, automatic TLS
  • DNS - NSD + Unbound
  • Code - gitolite + cgit
  • Community - wiki, forum, IRC
  • Gopher - project and user gopher
  • AI - local models, self-hosted

No cloud providers. Every configuration documented in plain text.
